Curatorial (Main Collections) volunteers provide assistance with regular collection management duties, such as cataloguing new acquisitions, researching and updating collection records, as well as cleaning of museum collection items.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data clean-up for the museum’s new collection management system
  • Research and publish information about collection items
  • Process new acquisitions (condition reporting, cataloguing and storing)
  • Cleaning of museum collection items
  • Collection audit
  • Re-organise storage space for quarantine of objects
Selection Criteria

Skills or experience required for the position.

  • Knowledge in cultural materials conservation practices or preventive conservation
    management preferably a bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • Organisation and communication skills
  • Can read and write in English
  • Bi-lingual EN-CN as well as ability to read and write simplified Chinese desirable
  • Collaboration skills and ability to be a valuable member of a team
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and apply professional and ethical codes of conduct.
  • Maintain and update main collection data in the museum’s current CMS
  • Increase public access to the museum collections by publishing information on CatalogIt Hub
  • New acquisitions (cataloguing, condition reporting, storing etc.) are processed within a month
    of acceptance
  • Inform Museum Registrar about the state and needs of the materials/ objects
Training and Support Plan
  • Training for using the Museum’s CMS (CatalogIt) and object handling will be provided
  • New volunteers will be included in scheduled Staff/Volunteer induction
