Volunteer Event Assistants assist the management team in the planning, set up and delivery of key events and public programs, especially the Museum’s 2024 Chinese New Year Festival program.

In this volunteer role, you could be providing guest services, hospitality, processing sales and donations and/or providing general assistance to the Event Manager.

Time Commitment

On Event Days

  • 2-8hrs, depending on the event.
  • Events usually take place on Saturdays and Sundays, or at night, any night of the week.

 Event Planning

  • There may be shifts prior to the event to help organise and/or set up for the event

Event - Chinese New Year

  • CNY Open Day Sunday 11th January
  • Plus other CNY events between 31st Jan – 22nd March
Start & End Dates

Starting January 2024 until end of March 2024.  The role can be ongoing for the right candidates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcoming guests, guest check in, managing the door list
  • Ushering
  • Processing giftshop sales or monetary donations
  • Assisting one of our Educators in delivering a workshop
  • Serving food and beverages
  • Event photography
  • Event content creation for social media
  • Marketing and promotional support ahead of the event
  • General assistance to the event manager in the lead up to the event and on the day
  • Set up of the event
  • Pack down of the event
Selection Criteria

Relevant skills or experience required

  • Good with customer service and dealing with the public generally
  • Willing to learn and confident to use a basic point of sale system
  • Good command of English. Mandarin/Cantonese or other dialect speaking skills will be highly regarded.

 Desired personality traits

  • A confident, outgoing person who enjoys interacting with all types of people including children
  • Someone who is happy to be directed to take on any small task to deliver a great experience for event attendees
  • Can be flexible and change tasks during the event if requested to do so

 Other requirements

  • This role may require you to work on your feet for several hours and over busy periods
  • Some light lifting and moving of furniture with assistance is required in this role
  • Some events finish later at night, e.g 11pm. If this is not suitable for you, please let us know.

A museum induction and role training will be provided ahead of the event
