The sun was shining, and many Victorians came out to support the inaugural 2022 Melbourne Chinatown Multicultural Celebration on Sunday 1st May! The Museum was open free of charge on the day, and we welcomed close to 700 people through our doors!

The Museum kicked off the celebratory day with informative talks on the history and significance of Melbourne’s parading Dragon.

Throughout the afternoon visitors were treated to very special live performances of traditional Chinese musical instruments including Guzheng, Yangqin, Erhu, Ruan, Hulusi, Chinese Flute and Pipa.  Our volunteer musicians looked stunning decked out in traditional Han costume as well!

All the Museum’s permanent exhibitions were open for the public to enjoy.

There was also a wonderful atmosphere outside in Chinatown.  There were musical performances with many Asian ethnic groups represented, and of course, all the usual mouth-watering Chinatown eats were on offer.

It was wonderful to see Victorians of all kinds out in mass to enjoy the day.
