The Chinese Museum wishes you a happy Chinese New Year!

The Chinese Zodiac is a cycle of twelve years and each year is represented by one of twelve animals.

There are many stories of a great mythical race officiated by none other than the Jade Emperor himself. He would decide which animals made it into the Zodiac and in which order. The animals had to first test their mettle and stamina by crossing a river. The ox was slated to be the first to reach the other side as it was accustomed to crossing rivers, but the cunning rat leapt on the back of the ox and then scurried to the finishing line with the ox lumbering behind to finish second.

February 12, 2021 marks the beginning of the Year of the Ox. The ox is a paragon of hard work and honesty. People born in this year are said to be strong, reliable and conscientious. Other ox attributes include being calm, patient and trustworthy.
