To combat the recent rise of racist attacks against Asian Australians, the Chinese Museum is hosting the We Are Strong Within program -  a set of free seminars and workshops that aims to empower Chinese Australians to manage and personally resolve conflict and educate and equip people with knowledge and skills to respond better to racism. 

SEMINARS:

The We Are Strong Within seminars will help you to: 

  • Understand the background of racism in Australia 
  • Know your legal rights
  • Understand the effect on your mental health
  • Give you tips on how to stand up for yourself anothers. 

Our panellists are:

  1. Dr Judy TangCommissioner at Victorian Multicultural Commission
    • Topic: Introduction
    • Bio: Judy Tang is a strong advocate for multiculturalism and LGBTIQA+ communities with expertise in psychology, ageing, research and mental health. 
  2. Isabel ZhangHead of Cross Cultural Insights at Bastion Insights
    • Topic: Defining racism
    • Bio: Isabel Zhang is an experienced cultural research specialist, providing insights into the dynamics of multicultural Australia and connecting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities. 
  3. Lily Ong, Principal Owner at Lily Ong Business Lawyer & Migration Consultants
    • Topic: Rights of victims
    • Bio: With over 20 years of experience in business and migration law, Lily Ong strives to provide quality legal advice to migrant communities.
  4. Dr Queenie WuClinical Psychologist, Director and Founder at Mindspace Consulting
    • Topic: Racism and mental health
    • Bio: Quennie Wu embraces Melbourne's cultural diversity and has experience in working with clients from different cultural backgrounds.
  5. Sifu Damien ChauremootooChief Instructor & Director, Martial Arts, Empower Tactical
    • Topic: Standing up for oneself and for each other
    • Bio: As an international lecturer and teacher, Sifu Damien Chauremootoo equips people with the skills and self-belief to protect themselves and develop their self-worth to achieve success.

WORKSHOPS:

Led by Sifu Damien Chauremootoo, the workshops will equip you with practical skills training and tips on how to deal with racism.

  • 1:30-2:30pm, Sunday 6th March 2022
  • 1:30-2:30pm, Sunday 20th March 2022

Spaces to the We Are Strong Within seminars and workshops are limited. Please ensure you can attend on the day before you register. This program is only available to people aged 18 years and over.
