Arts and Culture Initiative, Museum of Chinese Australian History

The Chinese Museum Arts Collective (CMAC) is an initiative founded specifically to support, facilitate and advocate for Chinese Australian creative practitioners of all disciplines. CMAC does this through an annual program of activities that are diverse, innovative, cross-disciplinary and that engage Australians of all diversities.

Academically motivated study is only one method for encountering history and identity, one that does not always promote interpretations that resonate emotionally with modern-day Chinese Australians. Artworks and art expressions produced by Chinese Australian artists and creative practitioners form an essential part of a living Chinese Australian heritage. As the Chinese Museum continues to be a leading cultural organisation supporting an emergent population of Chinese Australians, it aims to become a centre for not only recording, researching and presenting Chinese Australian history, but a place that fosters the creative expression, interpretation and celebration of Chinese Australian heritage.

The aims of the Chinese Museum Arts Collective are to:

SUPPORT AND ADVOCATE

  • Establish a platform for artists of all disciplines to further their individual and collective professional and creative development.
  • Create mentorship activities where creative practitioners can provide insight into their work to inspire and guide others.
  • Provide ongoing support for connecting or placing artists into allied industries.

FACILITATE UNIQUE AND INNOVATIVE CREATIVE PRESENTATIONS

  • Support creative ideas and endeavours by facilitating projects from conceptualisation through to presentation.
  • Promote Chinese Australian artistic presentations to the wider community.

DEVELOP AN ANNUAL 'CREATIVE MUSEUM' PROGRAM

  • Provide opportunities for artists to participate in creative activities that form part of the Museum’s annual programming in the areas of exhibition, performance, media, design, festivals and education.
