The Dragon Boat Festival marks the fifth day of the fifth lunar month and is a day to remember the patriotic poet Qu Yuan.

The whole family can join us FREE on Sunday 5th June 2022, and have fun with traditional Dragon Boat Festival traditions such as sticky rice cakes, dragon boats, folk stories about Qu Yuan and more! 

1-hour program to take place on the hour, every hour 11am - 3pm

Hear the legendary story of Qu Yuan (10 mins)

Qu Yuan (c. 340–278 BC) was a Chinese poet and statesman who lived during the Warring States Period in China. People make zongzi (steamed rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaf) and hold dragon boat races in memory of him.  

Learn how zongzi is made (20 mins)

Only eaten during this Festival, the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne (CYSM) will provide rice dumpling making lessons, a Chinese custom to be passed down from generation to generation.

Create a fun keepsake / memento of the day (30 mins)
