Chinese Australian Family Historians of Victoria successfully held the Family History Day on Sunday 13 August 2023.
It was a fun day, friends and family shared stories and cups of tea, and presenters offered some of their experience about family history research.
Mark Wang, CEO of the Chinese Museum, talked about the links between the Museum and CAFHOV, what we represent for the Chinese community of Melbourne, and the Museum’s vision for the future.
Amongst other presenters from our membership, Robyn Ansell recapped the beginnings of CAFHOV at the Chinese Museum, and Jim Twycross told us about the challenges he faced in writing his award-winning book about his wife Susan’s extensive Ah Shin family.
Terry Young, our vice-president, previewed some new tools on our website for researchers. Family history researchers should check out the research guide under the Resources menu.
Our panel of members provided their stories and reasons for researching about their families, from understanding the connections between the Chinese in Australia to their homeland, to untangling the relationships in a large and complicated family.
Remembering our ancestors and learning about our past is important as well as fascinating. Take a look at Our Stories and check out Our Photo Album on the CAFHOV website. You might be inspired to find an old photo and record your story about it to tell your family. Share those memories before they are forgotten.
