Focus for learning: Levels/Years 4-6 HASS - History, Intercultural Understanding/Capability, Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia

Cost: Free for schools in NSW, ACT, QLD, SA, WA, NT & TAS. (normally $8.80 per student). 

Duration: 45 minutes

This program provides opportunities for students to engage with historical and cultural content relevant to:

  1. Chinese migration to Australia during the Gold Rush era – opportunities and challenges

  2. Post Gold Rush - the establishment of a Chinese community in Australia

This virtual incursion introduces students to artefacts from the Chinese Museum’s collection and brings them into the classroom. Students will engage with content that answers the inquiry questions:

  • Why and how did Chinese people first migrate to Australia in the 1800s?
  • What was life like on the colonial goldfields?
  • Which occupations did Chinese people choose to work in after the goldrush? 

The program is facilitated live by an experienced Museum Guide via Zoom, MS Teams, Webex, or the video-conferencing platform recommended by your education jurisdiction. Pre and post activities to consolidate student learning experiences are included in the museum's LMS.

Thank you so much for the experience yesterday. Terms & Conditions: A free Digital Cultural Adventure constitutes is one session (max. 50 students). Schools can book no more than 3 free sessions.  The free Digital Cultural Adventure session/s must be spent between 8th Nov 2021-1st May 2022.  There is a total of 20 free Wing Chun Kung Fu sessions available. There is a total of 100 free sessions available overall.
