We are seeing an increased interest in all things Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and this was reflected in our Mid Autumn Open Day attendance figures and interactions on Social Media.

Our annual free Mid-Autumn Open Day took place on the 7th of September this year, coinciding with Chinatown’s Mid-Autumn Festival.

The big development this year was that we kept our doors open until 10 pm to take advantage of the large night time crowds in Chinatown square. Despite the cold weather we still had an excellent turnout of 650 people.

Throughout the day, our Museum-goers were treated to free lantern making, mooncake making and tea workshops.  We also had fun with our riddle guessing competition and imparted historical knowledge in the form our Chinatown Heritage walks.

It was a great buzz in the Museum all day.  Thank you to those that came out to celebrate this traditional Chinese occasion with us and if you missed out be sure to come along next year!
