Duration: 1 hour

Cost: $11.00 per student. Accompanying teachers and support parents are free.

All Education Program bookings on Sundays will incur a 15% surcharge. **Does not apply for self-guided

Students will explore ‘Finding Gold’, to learn about life on the goldfields in the 1850s. In the ‘Dragon Gallery’, students will learn about Chinese mythology and symbolism. ‘Han Dynasty’ presents interesting inventions from Ancient China (206BCE – 220CE). ‘One Million Stories’ provides a unique insight into Chinese-Australian history spanning 200 years through to the present day.

About our 2026 School Education Programs

Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2, our Education Programs support the teaching and learning in the curriculum areas of History, Chinese LOTE, Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia, and cultural diversity and practices in the Intercultural Capability.
Dragon Puppet Workshop

In this hands-on craft workshop students will learn about the importance, myths, and origins of the Chinese dragon.
Self-Guided Student Tour: Zheng He’s Treasure Hunt

Ideal for self-guided student visits, in this treasure map activity, Chinese navigator Zheng He, helps students search the museum for clues to learn about China’s history.
Chinese Inventions Workshop & Han Dynasty Tour

Students will engage in a focused tour of the Han Dynasty: Life Everlasting exhibition and participate in an interactive workshop involving objects to learn about key Chinese inventions, innovations and achievements from this dynasty.
Han Dynasty & Life Everlasting Workshop

Students will engage in a focused tour of the Han Dynasty: Life Everlasting exhibition, viewing a range of artefacts including a jade burial suit. In the workshop, students will examine the Qin and Han Dynasties, exploring their achievements, burial and funerary customs, and their quest for immortality.
Chinese Fans

Designed for Year 1 to Year 4, students will learn about the history of Chinese fans and make their own fans from lucky red packets.
Chinese Lunchbox

Freshly prepared takeaway food boxes served in a friendly Asian food court environment. Alternatively, groups can take their lunchboxes to enjoy at one of many public gardens nearby.
Chinese Restaurant Lunch

Served at a nearby restaurant, a traditional shared Chinese meal is the perfect complement to your Chinese Museum excursion.
Kung Fu School Workshop

Tailored for school groups, students will practice basic Kung Fu movements in a safe and supportive environment.

The Chinese Museum has multiple galleries / space for hire, suitable for exhibitions, parties, dinners, talks and many other functions. All proceeds from venue hires go towards furthering our mission of communicating the Chinese-Australian story and promoting multiculturalism
OUR ORGANISATION

The Chinese Museum’s building, located in the heart of Chinatown, was built by the Cohen Bros. in 1890 and used originally as a furniture warehouse. It was acquired in 1984 by the Victorian State Government to enable the establishment of a Museum to provide the heritage and cultural foundation for Melbourne’s Chinatown.
