This week, the Museum has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2022 CNY Open Day and festivities. This follows the Chinatown Precinct Association’s announcement that it will cancel its CNY festivities and Dragon Parade, centred around Little Bourke St.

It was the hope of everyone that the festival could go ahead this year, but with no abatement of the COVID-19 situation, that option is now no longer viable.

Announcement from Chinatown Precinct Association:

"After days of close observation, and as we have a duty of care, we must put the health and safety of everyone FIRST. We have made a difficult decision: The Chinese New Years Eve event is cancelled. Melbourne Chinatown wishes everyone to stay safe, and welcome the year of the Tiger in the best shape we can."

While this year’s Chinatown Melbourne Chinese New Year events are unable to proceed, the Chinese Museum remains committed to championing Victoria’s Chinese Australian cultural heritage and traditions.

We look forward to participating in Melbourne Chinatown Chinese New Year in 2023!
