Grace Feng Fan Juan spoke at the Chinese Museum on Sunday 31st of July. Grace is a Chinese-Australian writer and director. On Sunday she spoke about her personal journey, beginning as an international student and continuing through to her present artistic practice as a filmmaker and her professional practice as an ABC Audience and Content Expert—Chinese.

In the course of her talk, Grace spoke with particular interest and detail about her AACTA Award nominated web series, Girl Interpreted, from writing the screenplay to the process of casting. She reflected also on the unique challenges of negotiating her way along a creative path in the face of parental expectations.

The audience participated in an engaged Q&A with Grace. Emerging performance artists asked Grace for advice about finding like-minded Chinese Australian creatives. Together with the audience, Grace also traced the intertwinements of personal and familial experiences and artistic practice with care and interest.
