Our Chinese New Year Open Day went ahead as planned on Sunday 2nd February. It was a pleasant day, albeit quieter than usual due growing community concern around the Coronavirus. MMG 2020 Chinese New Year Celebration

On the 23rd of January, the Chinese Museum team visited the MMG (Minerals and Metals Group)'s Melbourne office to deliver its annual Chinese New Year festivities. The Museum team gave a fun and informative presentation about the Year of the Rat and about the tradition of giving red packets. Following the presentation, the team taught the MMG staff how to make lanterns from red packets, which was met with enthusiastic participation! Read more

    OUR ORGANISATION

    The Chinese Museum’s building, located in the heart of Chinatown, was built by the Cohen Bros. in 1890 and used originally as a furniture warehouse. It was acquired in 1984 by the Victorian State Government to enable the establishment of a Museum to provide the heritage and cultural foundation for Melbourne’s Chinatown.
